Extended to Sunday! Rojo ACCT-A-261026 is currently considered urgent due to behavioral concerns in the shelter and is seeking placement. Rojo must have confirmed placement through ADOPTION or with a RESCUE PARTNER by SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3RD at 10AM. Should Rojo's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Rojo is a 10-month-old male domestic shorthair who arrived at ACCT Philly on September 7 as an owner surrender due to having too many animals. He previously lived indoors, and his former owner reported no behavioral or medical concerns. Rojo also previously lived harmoniously with other cats. The shelter environment has been difficult for Rojo. At intake, he was initially calm inside his den and accepted pets, but once removed from that secure space, he became highly stressed—running around the room, hissing when people attempted to grab him, and searching for an exit. More recent interactions show that Rojo continues to prefer having a safe hiding place and plenty of space. He has been observed hiding in his den and a large paper bag, remaining tense and uncomfortable when approached. Given his persistent stress with close human interaction in the shelter, Rojo is seeking a working cat placement where he can have space and an environment better suited to his current behavioral needs. I reached in with the behavior wand a little closer than I did yesterday, and while he did not attempt to hiss or swat, he still seemed very uncomfortable. 9/22 Hiding in feral den, flat ears, hard stare, very tense. Seemed very uncomfortable when I approached, did not want to pressure an interaction. 09/07/2026 TTA : Rojo was calm inside the feral den, accepted pets while inside but when brought outside the feral den, he completely changed, went from tolerant to running all over Cat Intake, making a mess, hissing at anyone trying to grab him, and exit searching, running from the tops of kitten kennels to the tops of the adult kennels.
