I first met a black kid in kindergarten and I remember since I could already speak I asked the parents if I could also be "like chocolate" and since I was already quite tan they said I was like caramel and I start telling everyone we were made of caramel and chocolate 😭😭😭

I was my friends’ baby’s second white person. The first was their mother so I was routinely called, “…mama?” Like they knew I wasn’t *their* mom, but maybe that’s just what we were called?
