@dannysdrivingschool: It’s interesting seeing this in action the ambulance waiting for the green light, so as not force anyone through the red light? But should they? Or is it better to go through the red and let them get on? #driving #drivingschool #drivinglessons #drivingtest #emergency #redlight
The reason we don’t put our sirens on and hold back is to not push cars through red lights as if a car goes through a red they break the law all about safety.

Ambulance drivers are the best for this. The police will just try and push through in my area.

I drive an ambulance, what the ambulance did was absolutely correct. We aren't allowed to push people through lights 😊 nice distance they held back at too!

it's illegal for any driver to go through a red light even if it's to let an emergency vehicle past, that's why the ambo held back

As a blue light driver we are only allowed to go through red lights when it is safe and clear to go through so sometimes we sit wait leave the lights on and then put sirens on when it goes green.

student paramedic here , I assume in this scenario if the para put their sirens on it could cause other drivers to move into an unsafe area , similar to how they will almost never run roadwork reds

As a parametric, lights and sirens should be on at all time. Not including in the middle of the night, the sirens get knocked off. But they’re turned off at red lights so other drivers don’t feel bullied to go through a red light…

Also the same with double white lines, we either turn everything off or hang back with light on only

Paramedic here. Slamming sirens on and forcing our way through is much more likely to cause an accident. Safety is paramount.

If you think the emergency vehicle should not be waiting around, then you should be leaving space from car in front to move over.

we sit back if there is no way of getting through and sometimes we turn the blues off aswell so it doesn't upset the traffic in front but yes that was a textbook ambulance maneuver

if you're at a red light, you don't need to move for no one.

We are not allowed to bully drivers through red lights hence turning off our sirens

Thank you for explaining that to your student. Despite what people on here say, you were 100% correct.

The ambulance isn’t waiting because of the red lights it’s waiting because it has no opportunity to go through it. It’s obstructed it will just cause panic and chaos.

If someone drives past the red lights then crews should put the sirens on to warn others and progress when possible and safe

It helps not stress drivers out especially through the tunnels or cause crashes when there is busy traffic.

It’s because we can’t force people through a red light who don’t have the exemption to the roast traffic act. Only the ambulance can.

Approaching roadworks on a duel carriageway 40mph speed limit down to one lane, ambulance turned their blues off as soon as they got into the single lane and on again when back to two. Stops others

We can’t push anyone through red lights we are trained to stay back until it’s green it’s for public safety

In heavy traffic at lights, where there is literally nowhere for other traffic to go, it’s done so that you don’t panic or force other drivers to put themselves in danger by trying to get out of your way.

Yes, they do get trained for that. It’s a whole back position so traffic doesn’t force itself through a red light.
