This is a skit, and worth watching as one. Creator Jaden Williams starts with something that sounds trivial, AI putting Halo into Modern Warfare 2, and talks himself into a panic about the end of software security. The thing underneath it is real. Reverse engineering means taking a compiled program, which is machine code nobody can read, and working backwards to source code you can understand and change. It has always been slow, skilled, expensive work. The Halo Decompilation Project has been using language models to rebuild Halo: Combat Evolved function by function, and has it booting in wireframe. People in that community call it a new era for game preservation. The part the skit gets right is that difficulty was the protection. Plenty of software is safe mostly because unpicking it costs more than it's worth. Here's the serious version of that, and it isn't hypothetical. In April, Anthropic finished a model that found thousands of previously unknown vulnerabilities across major operating systems, browsers and open-source libraries. One had been sitting in OpenBSD for 27 years. The company decided not to release it publicly and gave access to about 50 organisations to patch things instead. The skit's doom spiral is fiction.
