Thank you for covering this, Saíd! Polari is such an important part of queer history: as you illustrated, it's a language that emerged from an environment of violent LGBTQ+ oppression. Just the puzzle-like formation of the words ground our perspectives, as we had to disguise language itself in order to survive and flourish. There are also curious linguistic roots from all manner of places, cultural and interlingual. Some Polari words have been absorbed into the general parlance, but much has been forgotten. We honour our queer heritage by preserving the language to our best ability in the present, and so I implore anyone curious to research it in their own time - it doesn't take long. To anyone who wants to see Polari in practice, I personally recommend skimming the outrageous Polari Bible, a Polari translation of the King James Bible that can be found for free online. Thank you again for covering this topic!

Filipinos have their own language spoken exclusively by gay people called Swardspeak that is a creole of Tagalog, English, Spanish, and Japanese. It uses a bunch of pop culture references too
