@ronniekenyatta: Younger Athletes: Sleep MUST Be Part of Your Routine! SLEEP is the secret weapon for all athletes — especially young ones! Research shows: • Athletes who sleep 8-10 hours perform better in speed, accuracy, and reaction time (Mah et al., Stanford Study). • Less than 6 hours of sleep increases risk of injury by over 70% (Milewski et al., 2014). • Sleep is where your body repairs muscles, consolidates skills, and sharpens your mind. TIPS: • Aim for 9+ hours for young athletes. • Create a consistent bedtime routine (same time nightly). • Avoid screens 60 minutes before bed. And it’s not just sleep — ROUTINES drive performance for ALL athletes! • Routines build confidence, reduce anxiety, and boost focus (Cotterill, 2010). • Pre-performance routines are proven to enhance consistency under pressure. TIPS: • Morning and evening routines set the tone for your day and recovery. • Include hydration, visualization, and journaling in your routine. • Consistency = confidence! Younger athletes: sleep must be part of your routine! All athletes: Build habits that lead to success on AND off the field! Maybe for a NORMAL kid! Mine gets almost 10 hours of sleep per night and still has more injuries! She’s just my breakable kid! 😭

Tell the school. Up at 630 to get to school. Teens aren’t sleepy until later night and hard for them. I don’t get why schools can’t start even 1 hr later especially HS

So why practice is from 6:30 to 8? Then go home and complete homework and schedule games at 8am and be up very early? It doesn’t make sense!

Well said, sleep is the most powerful strategy in recovery and injury prevention. It’s also not just on how long you sleep, but also how well

or tell them to put the phone or controller down and go to bed to have a productive morning practice. Missing practice because they chose to play fortnight until 3am is unacceptable

We had an 8u baseball game go until almost 10:00pm on a school night two weeks ago. Umpire forced us to start a new inning with less than a minute left. Up by 10 as the away team so they had to finish the inning. Ridiculous

I have a very busy athlete son and we prioritize sleep and food over almost anything. I fight him every day to get to sleep. So important.
