Most commercial or consumer drones rely on radio frequencies (RF), Wi-Fi, or GPS to navigate and communicate with their controllers. ​If a drone is controlled via standard Wi-Fi, it is susceptible to standard wireless vulnerabilities. Security researchers use Python because it has powerful libraries (like scapy) capable of interacting directly with network hardware. ​How the Technical Logic Works (Theoretical) ​Rather than "cracking a password" or destroying the drone's software, a security engineer typically uses a Deauthentication (Deauth) Attack. ​The Vulnerability: In standard Wi-Fi protocols, management frames (the packets that keep a device connected to a router or controller) are often unencrypted. ​The Spoof: A Python script can be written to mimic the drone's unique hardware address (MAC address). ​The Disconnect: The script sends a continuous stream of "disconnect" commands to the controller.
