Romania holds thousands of mineral and thermal springs, many celebrated since Roman times. Places such as Băile Herculane rose to prominence because of waters believed to ease ailments and restore weary bodies. Across the country, naturally carbonated springs bubble from the earth, while mountain aquifers feed crystal streams that eventually find their way to the Danube and the Black Sea. Local lore often speaks of healing fountains, enchanted wells, and springs guarded by saints, spirits, or forgotten legends passed from one generation to the next. There is something humbling about standing beside a spring that has flowed uninterrupted for millennia. Long after kingdoms vanished and borders shifted, the water kept moving, carrying no allegiance except to gravity and time.
