If you go to a sit down restaurant, you should tip 18- 20%, most of the servers make less than $4 per hour.

My concern is if its part of the receipt then the server may not get it, I’d always hand over cash

What a lot of us 🇬🇧 didn’t understand is that a server may need to give money to bussers, cooks etc regardless of tip left. So they’d actually lose money. Best to ask before ordering.

Tipping culture needs to get gone, whys it on the customer to make up the servers wage?! I'm so glad we don't have it in the UK.

Hiya. I suppose now, with the tariffs, the tip window will start at 145%? Stay safe. All the best to you. 🌹

Always tip in cash in Florida they have the country's lowest minimum wage which just about covers income tax the company takes from their wage. Also many of the franchises take a cut of the tip if you put it through the card machine and the servers are on zero-hours contracts, just bare in mind how much you would want to be paid for serving of your table. Tips in Florida is their only income. In a top restaurant in Kissimmed I was served by a police woman, who had just lost her job as the county had run out of budget, to barely keep her house and standard of living she was working two eight hours shifts a day,

Then in many restaurants they have to share tips with cooks busboys and hostesses. So always ask the wait person if THEY get to keep their tips. We don’t tip on the check- we leave cash for the server

Most people don't know what TIPS stand for... paying wages for staff that mega companies don't want to pay is disgraceful! THANKS IN PRAISE OF SERVICE... Not an obligation to pay for wages!

And sometimes we put it directly in their hand and thank them if we liked their service. People don’t know many restaurants pay them an hr wage of 2.50$ and expect them to make it up in tips.

Companies should pay a living wage for their staff... price their products accordingly, then TIPS are what they should be... a gratuity, a bonus, a thanks for good service! It's crazy in the USA! 😖

You use a British/European MasterCard debit card. Due to the way the authorization works, it may automatically reject the Tip overnight, so you only get charged for the meal.
