@theappalachianqueen: Several communities in Harlan County have been without access to city water since April 26th. (And they just barely got over another water crisis this winter!) Members of these communities are resorting to collecting rain water in barrels and packing water from the creek. A community water tank has been placed off 119 but it is NON POTABLE water which means you cannot drink it. While they are handing out bottles of drinking water at fire stations, this is a stark reminder that the water that comes from your faucet is not a miracle, it takes maintenance and our money to keep it running. Many people in the community are dealing with high water bills yet still have no water. Meanwhile while we are in an active water crisis, state officials are threatening to destroy this artesian well in Harlan to expand Highway 421. I am all for safer roads but we should not be destroying a source of water when the county can’t even provide us access to reliable city water. Please sign and share the petition. Link is in bio.
