If you go to Louisiana, PLEASE visit the Whitney plantation! It’s one of the only plantations that centers the experience of those enslaved-rather than the “beauty” of the homes/info abt home owners

I lived in Charleston a few years ago. I think having weddings or other events at plantations is highly unethical but visiting for educational purposes can definitely be a good thing.

Monticello is another home of the era where they're working to try to tell a more complete history. It's not perfect, but they've been actively working to improve for the last decade or two.
