Tried Rosuvastatin first, but had muscles issues. Same with Lipitor. Now starting Repatha (this week). Thoughts on it?

As a clinical pharmacist, rosuvastatin is my go to if a statin is indicated. We learned in school it’s typically the most well-tolerated and since hydrophilic vs. lipophilic, less muscle pain

From a pharmacist’s perspective, rosuvastatin is objectively the best statin. I approve

Crestor works great. It brought my ldl down to 52 in just a few months but it caused systemic body aches so I’m off it for three months.

Despite all of the meta-analyses (higher evidence level) and other studies showing the benefit in this context, you’re making this choice based on one contrary study?

What’s your thoughts on Repatha? I know multiple people who have had amazing results and by stopping their statin stopped having muscle cramping and other symptoms

Answered an important question for me as I (an RN) educate my patients during med pass and D/C. They compare to what statin they’re taking, and our hospital system seems to have adopted atorvastatin.

Why so you trust this single article more then the numerous prior studies that state opposite effects? (out of curiosity)

I was put on rosuvastatin after a stent, and a month later, I had a severe muscle reaction all over my body. It was horrendous ! It’s really not for everyone 😳

Do you have link to study. I’ve heard about posterior cingulate cortex. Observational studies (e.g., 2021 JAMA Neurology, others from 2016–2023) show that continued statin use in people with early cognitive impairment does not worsen cognition.
• A 2020 Australian study (STAREE sub-analysis) and similar trials show no acceleration in cognitive decline, even in early dementia cases. We are still doing staree trial
