@ktbunton: A tough lesson but one I wanted to share with you guys. I hope this can help someone, but also explain what the heck we’ve been up to and why and ideally reduce some of the judgmental and negative trolling we often get. I think a lot of us borrow and live at the top of our means. No matter how much money you make, if you fall into this trap you could find yourself in this situation too. We chose this time around, to buy a property that was way under our “approved” borrowing amount and not live in it but then it into a business. The money we saved on this we are using as a buffer in savings (aka stocks) & have some left over to invest in ourselves and our businesses. This is only possible because we had family support that we actually accepted. It’s not easy tucking your tail between your legs and moving back in with your Mom. It’s not easy down sizing from a 5 bed house to a 2 bed apartment. We now pay rent to HER instead of someone else, which helps her too. We pool our resources as a family (the way it was meant to be) Trust me guys, moving in with my MIL was far from my “dream” I feared looking like a failure and people judging us. Which has happened. WAY more than I even anticipated. The hate has been relentless. People making fun of us has been relentless. At the end of the day none of that matters. Securing our family’s financial future and being present with our kids at the same time does matter though. Being able to travel to Canada and be there part of the year is a huge dream of mine and we are now able to do that. Our life is changed but it’s better.
