To the folks wanting to get a GSD from a breeder: PLEASE buy from a reputable breeder. It prevents so much heart break and saves so much money. A reputable breeder does genetic testing, ALWAYS.

Our lab mix had hip dysplasia. We had to give her daily glucosamine supplements otherwise she’d struggle to get up from lying down. HD sucks

People really have NO clue. You can get from the most reputable breeder and still end up with hip displaysia. Yes, always get from breeders who do genetic testing etc, but it’s not foolproof.

hi vet assistant here! our clinic offers a monthly injection called librela! a lot of our HD/arthritic patients have been drastically improving while on it, so it may be worth looking into!!

you know german shepherds are terribly bred with the worst show standard. everyone knows. it's like buying a brachy dog and being all 'so sad he can't breathe ☹️'. pls.

I don’t know if this will help you at all, but our dog has it and I found Galliprant through a friend. She went from being too sore to move after hikes to acting like she did at 1. May be worth a shot

99.99% of TRUE German shepherds never get this. It's a trait from over breeding and not pure genetics. Shepherds are the most bred dogs in the US and almost 0 are true GSDs.

My dog is from a reputable breeder but still got bilateral hip dysplasia. it can occur randomly. bad luck. ‘just get surgery’ it’s 8k PER HIP and that’s without complications😭

To anyone going through this once and wants to get another dog from a breeder, ask about their OFA or PennHip scores! Good breeders do orthopedic testing for predisposed breeds💜

poor baby. My mom rescued a german shepherd from an old veteran who could no longer care for her due to age. she originally came from a backyard breeder. at 6 months was diagnosed with hip dysplasia.
