@therapistinrecovery: If you struggle with OCD, chances are you also practice the compulsion of confessing, whether you know it or not. It can hide pretty easily in both children and adults because sharing of any kind is usually seen as healthy. OCD uses this, though, as a way to seek reassurance and feed the cycle of anxiety. Watch this video to better equip yourself to break that ocd cycle while still getting the support you need. Like and follow for more OCD tips. I always feel like I need to confess everything I’ve ever done wrong to any new friend, so they don’t find out in the future and think I’m not only a bad person but also a liar 😭😭

Does over explaining go along with this ever? Like to a point that’s too far, but ultimately seeking reassurance

It’s amazing how it targets what you value most, and manifests in moral scrupulosity. And the low insight makes you think it’s a one and done, but it never is! This is spot on !!!

I have stopped confessing. I label the thought in my head and say this may or may not be true but there’s not a need to confess it. My thoughts eventually go away.

Oh yikes. False memories can be OCD? I do confessing because of possible false memories. Like I can’t even tell if it was true or if I made it up

Interesting because I grew up Catholic where confession is part of the religion, and I believe that fueled and normalized a lot of my current compulsions surrounding OCD confessions
