@thearcadiaprojectnj: Summer Cascade Wisteria is a native option to the US that does not spread or becoming invasive like Chinese wisterias. I have four vines on a pergola and though they took only 2 seasons to get established, they have not wandered. A gorgeous, fragrant native wisteria option that makes pollinators super happy! When we prioritize perennial plantings over annuals we invite birds and beneficial insects to take up a permanent residence and overwinter. These are huge for ecosystem conservation; we have so many praying mantis egg casings on our site thanks to more perennials! Perennial roots spread farther and wider which stabilizes soil and helps with tilth. Woody perennial plant tissues absorb more carbon from the atmosphere than tender annuals and sink carbon into the soil sublayers. They also tend to come back bigger and better every year of well cared for. 😊
