ER nurse here, it is correct that you'll taste salt when you're dehydrated. Because your body is craving sodium when you're severely dehydrated. I've had patients tell me they can taste salt when they're getting iv fluids. So there is definitely validity to it.

it might be placebo, idk tho, I swear when I don't drink enough water, and I go for a garorade it's sweet and salty, but if I stay hydrated prior, it's not that salty. that's just me tho
