Our hospital started doing ED to floor report through Epic secure chat using a template about a year ago. Game changer. I’m a floor nurse and it makes thing sooo much easier because sometimes yeah, I can’t take a phone call at the moment but since they send it thru chat I can read over it super quick & be ready for when they get to the floor. Most of the stuff I look up in the chart anyways. It’s been a huge help for both ED & floor nurses❤️

When I get report form the ED I look up my own patients because the er nurse always knows nothing about them ..

As a med surg nurse, I actually help with patient care, usually if I’m in a room I’m also taking them to the bathroom, giving meds, giving a one minute med might turn into cleaning up the pt and more

Sometimes, I've had patiens transferred from the intensive units, I tell them I'm busy, and they'll usually ask if they want me to get report bedside, which is nice (1/2).

As a floor nurse, as long as I know they’re coming… I got it. I don’t need in-depth report, just if something crazy happened… I can read notes and orders, send em on up…

I do not mind calling back. It pisses me off when I tell someone calling the nurse is at lunch and they say “can charge take report” ??? Our charge is taking a full patient assignment. I work ICU so

I feel like it’s just not that hard to take report… Ifeel so bad for ED. they’re stable, send them up, I’ll figure it out 🥹 some nurses pride themselves on drilling yall with unimportant questions 😶

we don't even get report now. ER puts in a note and if the bed is clean the patient shows up in the room.

We literally call/message the nurse and tell them we’re coming in 10mins or whatever. Otherwise we wait FOREVER -Also a pre/post/PACU nurse

These are the times ERSs are important. As a charge nurse, I’ll literally take report for one of my nurses if there is a delay in care.

I work in IR and brought an ICU pt back up after a procedure and the RN chewed me out in front of everyone that I "didn't give her report" I said "well good thing I'm right here to give you report"

We do a chart review with the ability to ask questions and a sign off on it. If it hasn’t been done in 30 min the patient is coming up lol

I would be like, so we keep the patient safe, I will give you report, please don’t interrupt me, I will answer at the end the questions you may have. But in all honesty, she may have had a bad day

after working ICU and now cath lab, I think a lot of times we just don't realize what's going on in other units until you work it (not saying you just people in general)

As a step down RN, I don’t get it at all. I have never asked anyone to call back. Or make them wait. I just take the report then. I mean, it’s only like a few minutes. I don’t get it. I’m sorry you had this experience.

The ICU nurses at my hospital kept giving excuses of us not wanting to take report on why it took them so long to bring the pt, so our manager has had us call them to get report and chart that we got it so it won’t come back on us. Saved a nurse one time, she took report and charted it, and then they took over an hour longer to bring pt up. ICU nurse said that our nurse kept refusing to take report. Our manager called theirs real quick😂

I always say sure I’d love to do you have a second for me to get a pen- or if I’m in the middle of cleaning a patient I’ll press the call bell when my phone rings to tell them to get someone else to get report.
