It's kind of odd all depends on your motherboard some have good heat syncs some have bad ones.

nand (the SSDs technology) does not run faster when it's cooler

The ones that come with heat shields you buy if your mobo doesn’t have one, or you have a ps5, if your mobo has bigger heat shields, then use them.. it’s all about surface area.

Thank you for this. I had been wondering about it because a lot of those heat syncs that come with a drive look like they are going for an aesthetic improvement over heat dissipation.

I was on the impression that the included heat sink versions where for game consoles. And for the secondary and third SSD on the motherboard. Because not all motherboard have heatsinks on them?

The old 960/970/980s tend to throttle quickly but not from heat, but from the cache filling immediately. Sustained and random read/writes is definitely much better on real enterprise drives, which are HOT

for OS programs and games nvme run around 50c but if you're doing heavy file editing read writes etc sure heat sinks very needed or will throttle it self

You should have known Bigger is better, especially when it comes to cooling.
