The child had two 16-year-old passengers in the car, which belonged to one of their mothers, and was racing a 17-year-old high school student. Deputies did not release how fast the cars were going, only said they were speeding and taking up both lanes of traffic. The 17-year-old, just two months shy of his 18th birthday, could have faced more serious charges. Instead, both juveniles were issued criminal citations, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
