Are we pretending 1490 isn’t an outstanding SAT score? I know kids who have 4.5s who can’t score that high . Grades aren’t regulated - some teachers grade easier than others, some take extra credit.

My bsf played soccer at Harvard. You still have to be strong academically to play a sport there. His gpa wasn’t great, but a 1490 is a solid SAT score.

He might have gone to a super hard/elite high school where 3.3 actually means something. His SAT score isn’t typical Harvard, so obviously athletic boost, but we don’t know the context of the GPA.

Talent is recruited. Not the same but I got almost a full ride to Michigan (out of state) for voice/opera. My grades and scores were good but not “scholarship, out of state Michigan good”. I got many full ride offers. Unique talent/passion gets noticed. 🤷♀️
