From a dance moms point of view. Lyrical = beautiful costume with flowy movements and a tear jerker ballad. Contemporary = weird or simple costume with a lot of weird movements and a darker eerie song

ive always heard that lyrical choreography is too the lyrics and contemporary is to the music or the beats of the song, which is funny because my contemp dance is choreographed to the words this year

For me, lyrical is based on ballet/jazz technique while taking the audience on an emotional journey and contemp is more based on abstract movement and shapes to tell a story

In addition. Lyrical is more on interpretative kind of dance. Either you interpret every lyrics or interpret the story of the song .

I feel like in the past 2 or 3 years you will definitely see hip hop influence in contemporary. This Mama will always love seeing her daughter dance a lyrical dance though, even if she hates it.

I've Stopped dancing at my 60's because of many many causes, the physical the less important. But I've learned in 40 years of doing it and teaching it: Choreography is everything but Graphic. but most of all Choreisticus, rather than Choreologycal. Let's talk abut it Jamie!
