Dogs = masculine. Cats = feminine. Makes sense that cats aren’t as studied. Same goes for humans. Sorry for your loss.

I’m a vet, I didn’t know mdr1 deficiency could happen to cats. Faucet will have a lasting legacy throughout my career because you taught me this. 💕

WSU will do MDR1 testing on any dog/cat for any interested pet parents. You can request the test through their website or your veterinarian.

i’m a zookeeper and i majored in psychology lol. Disenfranchised grief is real and it’s valid. People don’t understand how traumatic animal loss can be, especially pet loss.

revolution plus is the ONLY flea and parasite treatment that my vet recommended, and so it’s the one i’ll keep using even if it’s expensive. my cat has allergies including fleas so it’s so necessary

You’re right. Cats are seen as more disposable, and there’s less funding to go around. It sucks. Same goes for cat nutrition as well.

my vet wanted me to use this medication soon after Faucet passed. I refused and asked for a pill that would do the same thing. I need you to know that your openness about this means everything and 1/2

I’ve been in vetmed for 12 years and HATE the lack of studies/research that’s done on cats. Everything is “off label” for cats. I try so hard to advocate for my cat patients the best I can ❤️

As a veterinarian who specializes in feline medicine, THANK YOU. There is so much information out there for MDR1 and dogs with preventatives, but not for cats. I am so sorry for your loss.

I wasn’t taught in tech school that cats could have MDR-1 mutation. Only dogs

I’ve been in vet med for 6 years and honestly did not know cats could have MDR1 mutations. I know it’s extremely common in collie/border collie/aussies.

Speciesism in vetmed is insane. I went to two vets with a rat emergency and they both brushed me off and gave me the wrong diagnosis. He ended up having what I suspected he had.

I’m doing my PhD on inbreeding in felines! Are you aware of the Darwin’s Cats project? It’s aiming to generate a huge dataset of cat genomes so we can study cat genetics way better

I'm currently in vet school and you are entirely right that cats are under-studied. this is the first I've heard of MDR1 mutation in cats. cats are truly an afterthought & it breaks my heart.

Cats are absolutely understudied, but unfortunately MDR1 is not widely known about nor respected for dogs either in vetmed. I work in vetmed, and I have an MDR1 +/- dog

I refuse to use Hartz because we lost two kitties after using them. I also live near the WSU campus and I think it's really cool about their research on this.
