AI detectors only catch the absolute laziest cheaters. Peer-reviewed studies repeatedly show even “lightly-edited” AI text completely destroys their accuracy.

I have found any writing that follows a set structure like, 5 paragraph essays, CER, or lab write ups, flag as AI generated. The more formula based the writing the more it gets flagged.

I’m a college English prof. IMO, the best way to detect AI is to get to know my students authentic writer’s voice, which means lots of low-stakes meta-cognitive writing.

I miss the good ole days when the only thing you have to worry about is plagiarism and writing everything in your own words, unless you’re quoting something. But TurnItIn gives me constant anxiety
