NYC is losing yet another neighborhood gem, one that's been quietly holding it down since 1985. @tribeca_park, a humble, family-run deli that's been part of Tribeca for 40 years, is closing its doors at the end of this month to make way for another cold, luxury high-rise. The kind no real New Yorker can actually afford. I stopped by today and met the lovely father-and-son duo behind the spot - Sayed and Motaz. Sayed came to New York from Egypt and opened this deli with heart and grit a couple years later. They've kept their prices pretty low (most items under $11) and have served generations of blue-collar workers, artists, neighbors, and passersby with warmth and dignity. The space hasn't changed much over the years and that's the beauty of it. Walking into this place feels like you've teleported back into old New York. Sitting on one of their worn-in stools, looking out at the street, you're hit with a wave of nostalgia. If you're nearby, please take a moment to stop in and say hi to Motaz and Sayed before the end of the month. They're the kind of people who make this city that place that the world loves so much- kind, grounded, and full of heart. Places like this won't be around much longer... and it's up to us to show up for them while we still can. The greed and apathy of these developers truly knows no bounds. It breaks my heart to see so many wonderful businesses shutter and entire historic blocks being demolished, turning this city into a playground for the rich. This isn't the nyc I fell in love with but let's support our local businesses as much as we can. Tag your favorites below.
