My son held the door open for a few people, and not 1 person said thank you. He asked me why. I told him it doesn't matter what they say, just how he treated them.

I always do, but I think the lack of is due to selfishness and people aren’t grateful anymore. Not in traffic, not when you hold the door or anything polite. I say do it anyway, every time.
