@hypermobile.worko: Hypermobility means your joints move more than normal- but that doesn’t mean your muscles are relaxed 🚫 In fact, your body often compensates for unstable joints by creating muscle tension to protect them. It’s a phenomenon that creates hypertonic (or really tight) muscles. But that ‘tight’ feeling is actually your body’s way of seeking stability, not a sign you need more stretching! #ehlersdanlos #hypermobile #hypermobility #workout #PioresSituaçõesSemArCondicionado

Because our bodies are holding us up with tension and not strength

it's nuts to me that all my docs that look at my back and make the comment on how tight the muscles are. like yes that's what's holding me upright. and it hurts a lot. 🙄

All I want to do is stretch, turn and twist my neck to try and relieve the tightness in my neck and upper back. 😩

My pt described it as too loose with movement but your compensating by being tight trying to hold them together

Everyone always comments on how tight my muscles are. Docs never believe when I say I don’t workout. Lol I have some hyper mobility but I doubt it’s EDS.

my physio said we our muscles are tight because they are overcompensating for our unstable joints...our muscles do all the work our ligaments are supposed to do.

This is also why a doctor trying to bend your thumb back isn’t a fully accurate assessment for hEDS

Could this also contribute to a hypertonic pelvic floor in women?

is this why despite me stretching my hamstrings multiple times a day for several months, they were still tight? also what hypermobile joint would cause my hamstrings to tighten?

That explains why I’ve stretched everyday for almost 2 years and have never been able to achieve my splits. A dancers worst nightmare.

Thank you! I suspect I have EDS. I was a gymnast through college and was quite flexible, which is helpful in gymnastics. But now, I'm tight everywhere, and don't think a dr. will do this.

I freaked out my gymnastics coach once because I typically had to stretch for a good 30 minutes to get to my full range of motion but I just randomly contorted my shoulders like a circus act without
