We recently took a road trip from Portland to John Day, Oregon which is a rural town in Eastern Oregon. This road trip was insanelyyyyy cool because we went from lush forests and waterfalls to high desert to mars (literally). 🍁 The best time to travel along this route is fall or spring when temperatures are mild - summer is almost too hot to enjoy some of these spots. 🚐 Timing wise, we would recommend 5 days to see all of the stops listed. We camped along the route as we went but you could also stay in Bend or Prineville and day trip from there to most of these spots.
