@communitycatsetx: My poor baby :( the vet thinks maybe feline hyperesthesia syndrome? If anyone has dealt with something similar please reach out #cattok #felinehyperesthesiasyndrome #catsoftiktok
FELINE HYPERESTHESIA!!!! My cat has this. She gets gabapentin twice a day and it doesn’t happen anymore. Make sure you show these videos to the vet!!

10yr tech here: Dunk her in a warm bath. I know it sounds ridiculous. Hyperesthesia can be moderated with “unique” stimuli. Brain reset.

feline hyperesthesia It's characterized by extreme skin sensitivity, often on the back near the tail, and a range of unpredictable behavioral. they often attack their back end

you can have it docked. it's humane when it's in their best interest.

Do you think this could be some sort of self harming OCD? Do you think you could replace her tail with a long, string toy and get her to play and focus on that? Unmet prey drive?

This is feline hyperesthesia!! Poor kitty. My cat had it. Gabapentin helped, as did humidifiers and air purifiers. We think she maybe had a skin allergy.

My cat does this randomly. Feline hypersthesia. When she first started having symptoms it was bad but she mellowed out after about a week. Now it’s usually maybe once a day unless she’s stressed/anxious

Since you went to the vet already I would get a second opinion at a different one just in case.

yes my cat has it, FHS. Currently on low dose Gabapentin but other medication like Amitriptyline or even seizure medication can help this depending the severity. Definitely talk to a reputable vet! (Vet tech here)

I wonder if some kind of cone/collar that prevents her from seeing her tail would help? They have some soft one on amazon. Poor baby :(

My cat has hyperesthesia. He chases his tail and gets majorly overstimulated by small things which causes aggression. Fluoxetine helped MAJORLY.

my cat has this!!!! join the feline hyperesthesia (feline epilepsy group) on Facebook. the recommended treatment for this type with the tail attacking is gabapentin or a anti seizure + ssri. but rule out other issues with urinary and blood work. mri not necessarily.

I've been around cats my whole life and none of them have ever done something like this before unless they're kittens and even then, its never aggressive like this. Not to be a resounding voice but yes, get a second opinion from a different vet. not normal at all.
