Why would they hate you? If it’s for VFX—it makes sense. Motion blur is added at the end of the compositing of elements process, using a plugin. I know that’s just a “hook” but just in case someone wants to learn the actual reason :P

What does that mean? I’m in the camera world and I get shutter speed but never understood shutter angle too much

Used to ask this of DOPs on commercial shoots and they’d just flat out refuse. Was a nighmare on moving phone comps, roto, tracking etc.

180 has never been a rule, that's because when we used film cameras, they defaulted to 180 so that the frame was exposed for half the time and advanced during the other half when the shutter covered

180 Degree (angle) = double framerate shutter-speed … just for the video girlies and guys. ✌🏻✨

I made the mistake of shooting a chroma at 180 shutter angle and the talent moves a lot, the editor hates me and doesn’t talk to me since that production 😢 (the editor was me) hahahahahahaha

yep, normally I shoot at 180° but did some green screen work and testing and stuck with 90° and F4 to keep sharpness through out and used depth map to add additional blur if needed.

I’ve cheated to 360 bc of low light and then used Reel Smart Motion Blur to add it back in post. Can’t tell the difference.

You can temporally interpolate a mattes motionblur with key frame rotoscoping to capture exactly that tough mb you just described :)

I wouldn’t say hate. It’s what’s needed. We shoot intentionally what’s needed. 📸🙌🏼

And then once you add VFX you can just add back the motion blur with a plug in, these days the plug ins do a really good job of making it look like it was shot at proper shutter
