My therapist told me this a few weeks ago. Everytime you make an excuse for their behavior you abandon yourself.

I still find myself protecting her even though I have so much anger toward her I can’t bring myself to bash her

It's so crazy how children have to be empathic for their parents and forget their trauma pain anger and sadness. The "erasing" yourself hits home

We actually enable bad behavior when we do this.

0-45 year old me. Now she’s angry because I started making her accountable and for having boundaries.

You’ve been hitting home w/ these posts lately! I’ve been working on healing my mother wound for the last year. It’s been difficult but good!

🎯 You’re absolutely right! I did need this. This is 100% my experience, and I just learned that I’ve been erasing myself my entire life. Thanks Doc!

I am impacted by having low self esteem. and anger issues. when I get triggered now, I go from a pool of calm water to one that has a huge stone dropped in it. and I hate that about myself most.

the hardest lesson is realizing that mom's behavior has translated into other people treating me how she did. especially when I dismiss how much she hurt me. I told her once and she turned to victim. I feel drained when I talk to her to this day

I do the same. im tired of understanding her, she refuses to understand me. Just minimize and tell me about someone else who has it worse. like I don't need you telling me exactly what you told me as a kid.

I have been too harsh on my kids because of my father too. A reason not an excuse. I consistently work on changing myself and my boys are 100% valid when they are upset when I yell at them or if Im being critical. I take that and I work on changing it. Our kids are valid ♡ they are allowed to feel.

Mom asked why I was “being mean”, I said I was tired of lies/half truths. Instead of asking what I meant or addressing the issue she just doesn’t talk to me much now 🙃
