My son had a heart murmur when he was little and they said it was harmless. Does that mean I should push for an echocardiogram or do you think that was unrelated to the defective valve?

I’m so sorry. ♥️I also have a defective mitral valve, and it’s connected to a connective tissue disorder that is genetic. I had no problems it was found in my screening for my conditions. Have you ever looked at ehlers danlos? This is not for fear, this could be preventative, have you had any one else in your family with similar stuff? It comes from my Nana’s side, so she had a valve replaced, so did my dad last year, and when I was diagnosed I reached out to my Nan’s siblings grandkids and most of her siblings died due to heart issues. This has allowed us all to begin the screening and preventative treatments. POTTS is in the umbrella under EDS.

Echos should be mandatory every 3 years for every child. My sister died at the age of 28 from cardiomyopathy and was constantly at the doctor and they all missed it. with how much we spend on healthcare there is no reason we are not doing more to ensure our children are healthy.

Can I just say thank you so much for not allowing your beautiful daughter to be used to spread fear around vaccinating. As a mom of a kiddo who medically has to follow a delayed vaccination schedule and is always at risk, I truly truly appreciate it.

I have a friend who is a nurse practitioner and she has said that if a doctor doesn’t want to run tests to tell the doctor that you’d like them to document it in their chart that they denied your request. Usually they’ll do it then.

I have a defective heart valve and almost died when I was 13. I had to BEG to go to the hospital bc no one believed me. My daughter has it too. I’m so sorry mama. 🥺

I know our situations a quite a bit different but still share a lot of similarities. My boy was a Boston terrier, but he was my baby. I raised him from a baby until he was 6 years old and was my best friend and family for all of those years. He also was born with a murmur, and he also died very suddenly and unexpectedly because I was always told his murmur was because he was an "active" boy. I had suspicions and was trying to get a referral to a cardiologist which I needed in order to get in and he ended up collapsing and dying at the dog park while playing fetch, his favorite game. It was the worst thing I ever witnessed, experienced, gone through, that was a little over a year ago and every day without him is still so hard. I still think about him and wonder what if every day. I know our situations are a bit different, but thank you for sharing you and your daughter's story because I feel so much less alone.

I never had problems until I just felt anxious one night and went to ER having a widow maker , got 1 stent & so grateful to God, bless u mama ❤️

I was 31 and diagnosed with patent Forman ovale. I have a hole in my heart. Drs never caught it when I was young ever. 💞 Give yourself some grace you did the best you could momma! You are amazing.

My youngest daughter had bright spots on her heart for pretty much my whole pregnancy. There wasn’t any murmurs and they couldn’t figure it out. She’s 5 years old now. This makes me want to investigate her further. I’m so sorry for your loss. I also have a 13 year old daughter too. I truly can’t imagine how hard this is.

I had to fight for my daughter (with a murmur) to get a repeat echo recently due to my fears that she was showing symptoms! Insurance didn’t want to pay! Thank you for spreading awareness of this!

Newborns should be screened for heart defects before they even leave the hospital. It should be a mandatory screening. I’m an Auntie of a CHD warrior and his defect was only found by accident. Thinking about you and sending you so much love. ♥️

You didn't know. I hope you know that. You did everything right. My son's heart condition was missed until he was 3. And I have the same heart condition. They even checked him when I was pregnant and it was still missed. Unfortunately it happens. I'm sorry you lost your baby girl 😭

How does one request an echocardiogram? My toddler had one because his murmur hasn’t gone away yet. But my older sons did as a baby. That’s scary and I’m so sorry ❤️
