We are free to be lovey or distancey when we please knowing we will not make them anxious or they won’t condemn us. Also can be sassy to the ones we are closest too when nerves are dysregulated.

This is one of my favorite facts! I've got a touch of tism and I also used to work in an animal shelter (animals have always been my favorite, lifelong admiration.), and I'm a proud cat Mom. I have a niece who is nonverbal and when I lived 7 hours away I was able to connect and gain her trust within a day each time I visited. I'm still one of the only people outside of her home that she will smile when I pick her up (that's still conditional to that days mood though, and I just respect that.) Family who lived on the same street as her still couldn't get her trust or attention. Couldn't believe when she'd hug me and such ........but I used behavioral tricks that got cats in the shelter comfortable 🤣 Its that when we aren't muddied and confused by human language and intellectualizing ourselves out of our instincts ....we infact all reconnect with our authentic "animal" nature. Baby dolls like my niece have an advantage. _-------------- sorry for the long and rambly, but my sister and I have talked about this for years. It's just exciting to see someone else come to the same conclusion. lol
