If I never become a burden, then people will always stay. This one’s born in childhood—trained into those who were punished or abandoned for having needs. It creates high-functioning shells who suppress their vulnerability, always giving, never receiving… until they collapse.

If I do everything right, then life will finally stop hurting me. This is the perfectionist’s prayer. A belief that if you just become good enough, careful enough, or healed enough, suffering will stop visiting you. But pain doesn’t follow logic. And life doesn’t sign fairness contracts.

It’s giving from emptiness, hoping that one day the other person will notice and repay the invisible debt. But they usually don’t, because they were never told a debt existed.

If I love you unconditionally, then you won’t leave me. This one lives deep in the nervous system. It turns love into a form of emotional currency—hoping that devotion will buy permanence. But love doesn’t guarantee loyalty. And trying to earn safety through love often leads to betrayal trauma when it doesn’t work
