230.85 requires an Emergency Disc. (ED) outside. If this ED is also the Service Disc. t, the interior panel needs a 4-wire feeder. If it's only an ED, 250.25 applies, a 3-wire cable is ok.

Never heard of this. If there is a disconnect usually you have to use ser. Do you have a code reference?

If someone adds a breaker in that outside panel then the outdoor 200 amp breaker becomes a main breaker and you have to change the wire inside to SER?

In our jurisdiction it was determined if there are additional spaces for circuits it is no longer emergency disconnect only.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that panel inside now considered a subpanel? You have branch circuit in that enclosure outside!!

Neutral and ground should be bonded at first means of disconnect, which means outside in this case, running SEU was a code violation

why would the 200 amp breaker panel outside not be considered the main panel forcing you to use 4 wire, bring all bonding there and separate grounds and neutrals inside?

Wouldn’t pass here, not without 4 wire going into the inside panel from the disconnect

Cant do that as that meter's listing is for "Service Equipment Only." Says it on the inside sticker as well

I would’ve done a survive loop in the disconnect itself would’ve looked a lot better

Make sure your dad knows how much you respect him for teaching you things cause you don’t want to realize it too late. The light in my dad’s eyes that day was worth it, just wish I would’ve told my Papa thank you for all the skills he taught me that I use now.

I always install meter bases…atleast 8 space and put as many big appliances on it as I can. I guess it’s preference but I always felt like a meter bases combo is nice when replacing the service

so my inspectors say that can ONLY be a main disconnect until they start putting emergency disconnect stickers on it from the factory

If you were using the Canadian code that problem would have been solved from the beginning. It make sense to have a service disconnect on the outside in the event of an emergency.

Where did you take your egc? To emergency disconnect or panel inside?

But if your state admits it, you do not need it. It’s only code for the states that didn’t exempted from the NEC.

I get that the main wire feeding the meter is made to be installed like that but something about the wire not being ran through some type of conduit doesn’t sit right with me lol

Means there’s space to add circuit breakers I would consider that a subpanel on the inside then. There are those that are made without the capability of adding circuit breakers under that then I would consider that an emergency disconnect not service equipment
