@westmetrofirerescue: A quick look at what our firefighters saw on the structure fire on Allison and 10th Avenue in a converted garage in Lakewood on Saturday night. The first two shots are from Engine 16 as the crew responded from 38th and Wadsworth. You could see the smoke plume from more than a mile away. The second shot shows what Engine 16 saw on arrival, and you hear on the radio that there is a "Charlie" exposure, which means that the home to the west (behind the garage) is at risk of sustaining damage from the fire. The Engine 16 crew was assigned to protect that structure. This fire was challenging to extinguish, as the remodeling work in the garage left several void spaces where the fire could spread, but it was difficult to get water on the flames. Firefighters had to "ventilate" the roof- basically- cut holes with a chainsaw to get water on the fire in the attic. Crews fought the fire both from the interior and exterior.
