@myteacherface: “Ds get degrees!” Teachers, have students said this to you? Students, have you said it? Yes, Ds do in fact get degrees, but…. how much do you really know when you leave school with the D-average degree? 😬 #M#Myteacherfacet#teachercollege #collegelife #t#teacherst#teachersoftiktokt#tiktokteacherteaching
D’s get diplomas, C’s get degrees, A’s get scholarships.

“C’s get degrees” to me, has always meant “don’t beat yourself up if you get a bad grade,” not, “hey, don’t try at all,” and it’s sad others fall to the latter category.

People who strictly use AI make me mad. Why are you asking chat gpt to write you a 250 word essay when you could write a good one in 20 minutes?

Students feel they need to use it because of the pressure of high grades. Maybe if there were less emphasis on grades students could actually learn something.

People use AI to do their thinking for them and that's scary to think about. At the same time, it's not going away. We need to start teaching responsible AI use, and how to use it with integrity

D’s actually don’t get degrees! I tell my kids in college actually most of my classes required me to at least have a B- to move up the next class required for my degree.

I have students in math who just copy step by step solutions to problems. If they are learning and can apply the skills I don’t care as much, but that’s not the case for many of the kids who use it.

I think that there is pros and cons and it should be taught how to use properly. Like using it to break a concept down further you’re not understanding or double checking that your work met the requirements or for editing purposes.

People complained about calculators and Google for the same reasons. It’s apart of our world now and should be taught how to use properly instead of something we’re scared of as a society.

I think AI use is so challenging and really raises a fundamental, philosophic question: what’s the point of eduction? Because it seems to me that we say that education is about creating a society full of well-rounded people who are both knowledgeable about how the world around us works, and also critical thinkers who are able to analyze and synthesize new data as its presented. However, it appears to me that the system we’ve created bares little resemblance to that. We’ve made educational almost exclusively about output instead of input. We’ve developed a culture where getting an answer correct is all that matters. School is merely a to-do list with checkboxes in order to move forward to the next thing. And in that context, AI use isn’t just understandable, the system demands it.

Not speaking for everyone but for me, I use it to learn the topic. I had a lot of high school teachers that just gave me a worksheet without explaining the topic so instead of googling it and taking 20 minutes to find a good website, I just ask ChatGPT to explain the lesson so I could complete the assignment

As a college student, I can confidently say a number of students are using it to get through busywork (especially the AI based homework programs which are dishing out 100+ questions on a chapter of a textbook that won't be on the exam) and classes that are required simply because they are (art history for biomedical majors), and there is more to this conversation than these stats are claiming. However, I'm also a sub and I know for a fact that what you are saying is valid as well.

I just finished my engineering degree, I used chatGPT. I didn't want to use it but I had too many professors that did not teach us anything. I had one tell us to use AI on assignments. I paid too much money to teach myself
