Socrates wasn't actually interested in debating to disprove - he was interested in debating to learn in the pursuits of knowledge. What he would do is take an opposing statement and then reinforce it further before then constructively critiquing it. We call this "steel manning" instead of straw manning.

for me, when i get into debates of God's existence (Im a former atheist, now a Catholic) instead of strawmanning the atheists claims, what i do is i Steelman their statement. basically reinforcing and making their conclusions so concrete that it shows its own flaws by creating analogies that Make it more powerful. a great example of an atheist claim is "The Foreknowledge of God negates free will" i could reply with "you are a person who traveled into the future to see who will win the World cup finals. it turns out that messi will perform so bad to the point that he will just walk out. obviously theres nothing you can do. But free will is taking its place. for God, when free will comes then its illogical. but when time traveler sees it, then its just nothing?".

its sounds quite strait forward but not easy in practise. bare in mind you will be engaging with pseudo skeptical and social skeptical who will alter reality in order to be right. arguments should be done with civility and with emotionally mature individuals. intellectualism will never be able to humble the arrogant.

welcome to my life where I never heard of this socrates method but I have done it before with friends and nobody likes me anymore. Point is if you ask too many questions everything becomes flawed and you lose everyone supporting that idea

In philosophy there are many ideas and ideologies. They all have their positives and negatives and when it comes to our limited knowledge of existance, impossible to prove. When he says "All I know is I know nothing" what he is actually saying is no one knows either. This acknowledgement and statement is the height of wisdom.
