Hear me out. I understand her pov. HOWEVER. That's not the way to go about it. Do not risk a toddler's life. Talk to your sister AND your parents about your suspicions.

Y&N… Yes for risking your nephew. No for ousting your sister for manipulating the entire family into catering to her. This child is being used as a pawn by the mother and sister!

And allergies aren’t always life threatening. Sensitivities to foods can cause digestion issues, skin issues….

I have a ragweed allergy. I got diagnosed in 2nd grade. I had to ask if I was allergic to cantaloupe because my throat always itched after eating it. It is in fact a ragweed and my dad used to tell me it was all in my head. I don’t try any fruits I don’t know anymore

I loved avocado because it was just the right amount of spicy. Turns out it’s not spicy and now it makes me itchy and struggle to breath if I eat it.

The sister just lied about what her son was allergic to just so nothing would be made that “she” didn’t like. The OP is wrong for risking the child’s life. But the sister is selfish for denying her child food that he may like

I think NTA for the INTENT to prove the sister’s lying, her lie meant that the kid couldn’t try foods he might like just cause she didn’t and meant the whole house had to adjust their diet around her preferences. (I’m a fussy eater so I just make my own food so as not to put other people out). But massive YTA for HOW she went about proving the sister was lying. That was a very dangerous way of proving it if all she had to go on was a hunch and she was home alone with this toddler as just a 17 year old! Not ok!

Fast forward to ~four years when she still thinks she did the right thing and “doesn’t know why” her sister keeps her nephew away from her!

generally, siblings k own if they have an allergy to.certain foods. she likely knew sister was not allergic and made a logical assumption. im on the border with this one.

My son has IBS. Sometimes I say allergy because people tend not to take IBS seriously. His triggers will make him extremely uncomfortable and have stomach pains for days. Not an allergy also doesn't mean anaphylaxis. It could be pains and other things.

It's possible I'm wrong here. Yes OP is the AH. Hands down. But if my kid moved back and said my grandchild was allergic to multiple foods..I'd need to see documentation. For one, so I NEVER accidentally gave a food they couldn't have. But also, I'm changing the entire dynamic of how I cook. I'd need something from the pediatrician. Just to ensure I was doing things correctly.

My brother developed an egg allergy in his late 30s. He doesn’t go into anaphylactic or swell up, or need an epi pen, but his stomach rots, he burps horrible gas and feels unwell. Allergic reactions don’t all look the same.

1. Most foods small children don’t like they ARE allergic too! 2. You can outgrow allergies- I did as a kid. 3. ABSOLUTELY the asconaut! This is SO dangerous and she’s lucky little guy was fine!
