@kellyscleankitchen: 2 hacks for making your life easier in the kitchen One of the biggest lessons they teach you in culinary school is to work smarter not harder in the kitchen. There are so many hacks for efficiency that I have learned in school and in my restaurant experience, but two that I use every day are below: 1. Keep a trash bowl at your station. This saves me SO much time because I don’t have to walk to the trash can every single time I have a piece of trash. Instead I throw it in the bowl and usually only have to walk to the trash can once or twice to empty it. 2. Use a bench scraper to pick up items off of your cutting board. I see so many people using their knife or hands to pick up prep off their butting boards and it is just so much easier with a bench scraper. It is my most used tool besides a knife, and one that I don’t go anywhere without when I am cheffing. What other kitchen efficiency hacks would you add to this list?? #cooking #kitchen

Great idea, but even better is a countertop compost container! Especially if you live in a city that does municipal organic waste collection (Minneapolis does)

someone should do a 3 week certification or something like that for home cooks to learn these kitchen basics. knife skills, setting up your kitchen, basic techniques.

You can also use the produce bag (if you use them) just fold it over, put your scraps and trash in it, then tie it up and chuck the whole thing

I always get the trash can out and put it next to me when I cook. Saves from washing an extra bowl.

I’m fortunate enough to have a yard for compost, so I have a small compost bin on counter top for veggie scrap, and then a trash bowl for all the other trash! Cuts down on the amount of kitchen trash I have to take out as well.

I put all vegetable and most fruit scraps in a freezer bag and make THE best vegetable stock out of them. Also if anything in the frig, including fresh herbs, have gotten too tired, into the bag it goes. Stock is a little different each time 😋

Don’t have a bench scraper yet, but I definitely do the bowl of scraps thing. Except, I usually use a produce bag from my shopping that night & then toss it. It works all the same tho!!! 🫶🏼 need that scraper….

And start with a sink of warm soapy water before anything else so you can clean as you go

1. My trash can is right next to me in the kitchen. 2. I have a light weight cutting board so just take things straight from the cutting board to the pan or bowl.
