Of course I’ll give people slack if they’re having a bad moment but this can’t be standard operating procedure, phone out at a movie. Embrace the concern, it’s art

I'm so anti spoiler, I don't even want to know if there's a plot twist. Someone saying "oh you'll never guess the plot twist at the end" or whatever is STILL A SPOILER!! Because I'm going to be looking for it or trying to figure it out the whole time!!! 😤😤

anticipation is a key part of consuming any media. why read a book when you could get the sparknotes? why watch a movie when you can read the wiki? truly what is the point if you don’t actually want to engage with the media in front of you. people we gotta work on our attention spans and tolerance for being uncomfortable

As someone diagnosed with generalized anxiety, people who are saying “it’s supposed to make you anxious” should know there’s a difference between feelings brought up by art and feelings brought up by disorders. Art based feeling is introspective/enlightening, disorder based feeling is disorganized/unproductive. If i’m TOO anxious watching a movie I get distracted and can’t even pay attention because my brain is so loud, and afterwards I won’t be able to shake off the anxiety and continue my day.

I don’t like spoilers, not even “You’re gonna love the ending, it’s so hype”. Like no matter how vague it is I hate it. BUT I’m also incredibly stressed out with stuff irl and I watch movies to appreciate plot and cinematic/narrative choices. If a movie/series is making me too anxious to focus on the media itself and its artistry I pause and look up what happens so I can appreciate HOW it happens. I will say!!! I do not do this without asking people I’m watching it with if it’s okay and I have never done this at the movie theatre (haven’t been to one in years anyway).

if you’re going to see a movie that you think you might be anxious during or if you just want to know anything about it, look it up BEFORE the movie starts or before you even leave to go to the theater, don’t be on your phone during the movie no matter what!

The anxiety of not knowing what's gonna happen IS THE POINT OF THE MOVIE they dont make movies to waste an hour and a half, they make movies to CONJURE EMOTIONS FROM ARTISTIC EXPRESSION
