my favorite theory is hosea being the physical embodiment of dutchs sanity, as hoseas health was deteriorating throughout the game as well as dutch’s mental state, which completely diminished when hosea died. it also reflects on how important hosea was to dutch in a general sense

colter only gets “boring” after the first play. its a great pace for introducing the game n characters. and even if it gets repetitive, its still extremely substantial and has good story

I think the whole Dutch head injury theory is so popular is because Dutch himself is a very popular and likeable character, saying that such a character is not good, and was never good is harder than saying that they changed suddenly because of an event we can easily perceive and understand. The game makes you like Dutch and trust him in the same way that Arthur and the gang do, but it’s a biased perspective. He’d killed Heidi McCourt in Blackwater and Arthur even says that it’s been a long time since they truly helped anyone but themselves, so the same way the gang cope with the fact that the bad was always there and it went unnoticed , ppl deal with it by theorizing that Dutch’s behavior is a byproduct of an injury. A lot of red dead theories are so crazy because they’re just cope lol

Dutch was going progressively more crazy the more the story progressed, but deep down darkness had always been within him. However, both Micah feeding up his ego and narcissism + the head injury may have just made it worse. Also Hosea being the last straw because with him gone there was nothing holding him back anymore. He was always crazy, he just needed a bit of spice into his brain to make him explode.

dutch was 100% manipulating arthur and the rest of the gang from the beginning 😭 but he could always hide it behind some kind of facade. he stopped hiding it and began getting worse with micah’s help and hosea’s death

It always baffles me how ppl don’t see how Dutch wasn’t truly someone who changed but just became more himself. Dutch and Arthur were having back n forths literally in the first chapter… 😭
