i thought that a nasal canula could only handle about 5-6L O2, why does hospital policy say you have to use a venturie mask for >10L??

These comments are tickling my brain, were RSIing a patient, I’m not worried about nose discomfort from 15L. 😭

Not needed if your bvm has oxygen in it. Just pointless

what about adding oxygen to the bvm?

Wait, how did it increase first pass success? Just by helping providers be more methodical? Gave them extra time before sat's dropped? I mean the whole idea seems great, I'm just curious what the thinking was behind that specific finding?

The research on this is insane. It’s been shown to provide oxygenation for upwards of 50 minutes without ventilations.

Do I connect the bvm to oxygen as well or use the cannula as main line o2?

it's called NODESAT.. short for Nasal Oxygenation During Efforts Securing A Tube. and yes you can use that low flow nasal cannula.
You can also use High flow NC for apneic oxygenation which is way2 better

There is evidence that adding 15 L/min nasal cannula oxygen during apnea can reduce desaturation in some settings (e.g., ED, elective intubation in healthy patients).
However, in critically ill adults or children in ICU, robust trials show no meaningful reduction in hypoxia with 15 L/min standard cannula.
Overall, the evidence is inconsistent and context-dependent.
Please present the study this claim is leaned on
