There WAS a smell. I don’t know about when it was left, but I can almost guarantee it was dead by the time the monitor got to it. Asian water monitors are primarily scavengers, they only resort to hunting prey when there’s no carrion around and even then they only eat small things like mice and small fish.

My theory is that they had already passed and was not laid it rest properly. An Asian water monitor is not going to hunt down a baby like the stories are making it out to be.

the parents shouldn't be leaving their baby out, the lizard is doing what it's supposed to in nature if something is small enough they will eat it it's sad yes but it's not the lizards fault

Okay. So an animal got hungry and ate food, you act like humans are the most important thing in the world. And before I get those replies of “you would be sad aswell” sure, I would be sad if my child died but then again it’s nature, it’s just a child just like any other animal. We eat meat daily yet that meat was a baby once, all animals need to eat.
