Okay if you want a less simplified/hyperbolic explanation older speakers will be more likely to do a “retracted t” that’s kinda like a glide between a t and a ch. but the T in “trip” is still definitely not the T in a word like “tip”

In Australia (and elsewhere) we take it a step further and pronounce other T words as /ch/. E.g. chuesday (Tuesday) and chuna (tuna)
