Free event in LA on August 30th! Register at: smvmt.org/latraining More about the Seeds of Change Summit by @YouthonRoot: Theme: “They Didn’t Know We Were Seeds” The devastating wildfires that swept through Los Angeles in early January serve as a stark reminder of the climate crisis and its disproportionate impact on frontline communities. As these fires reshaped landscapes and lives, they also reignited the urgency for grassroots action and systemic change. This year’s summit draws strength from this powerful reminder: in moments of crisis, we are not buried—we are planted. At the 2025 Seeds of Change Summit, held on Saturday, August 30th at UCLA—a hub of environmental research and activism—youth are gathering to grieve, to heal, to grow and transform crisis into collective action. This summit will bring together over 400 high school and college age youth leaders from across California who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis, particularly Black, Indigenous, and other youth of color from low-income communities. Building on the success of past convenings—including our first Seeds of Change Summit at UC Berkeley in 2023, and regional gatherings at UC Irvine and UCSF Mission Bay in 2024—this year’s event will be our most expansive yet. Get ready for: * Youth-led workshops on climate justice, organizing, and community action * Healing spaces that honor the trauma of climate disasters while cultivating joy * Coalition-building across lines of race, class, and geography * Opportunities to share lived experiences and seed long-term campaigns for change This isn’t just an event—it’s a movement. The Seeds of Change Summit is where young people come to root down, rise up, and reimagine what’s possible. With support from UCLA’s Center for Diverse Leadership in Science (CDLS), the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (IoES), the School of Education and Information Studies, and local EJ organizations, we are building power from the ground up. #climateaction #environmentaljustice #EndTheOligarchy #MakePollutersPay #SunriseMovement
