I love how Tolkien spends SO much time on describing the landscape and small details like smells, shapes, colours, sounds etc. I find it really beautiful how he found those details so important that he took the time to do all that. My fave ex is the Fangorn forest/ Treebeard, where he’s basically describing trees and leaves for page after page. I’ve only read the trilogy in my first language (Swedish) since I wanted to be able to understand everything and just enjoy the story, without having to stop and look up words 24/7. But I’m very excited to, when my English is better, to read it in its original form to truly hear he’s own words and way of telling the story!
