Soak-off gels are more flexible and not always strong enough for heavy-handed clients or those who are rough on their nails. Hard gel offers better durability, but only if applied correctly. One common mistake I see is using the “alignment” technique with hard gel, keeping the free edge too thin. Hard gel isn’t designed to flex like soak-off gel—so when the edge is left weak, it quickly leads to cracks and lifting. Also, don’t forget the natural nail underneath the free edge must be removed and properly sealed. Leaving it can cause peeling, reduce wear time, and ruin the look of your work.
