Why does God allow your child to cause you so much pain? For many Christian parents, the thing that breaks the heart the most is not how hard life can be. It is that the person you love the most, the person you have given the most to, has become the person you have cried over the most. You watch them drift away from God, walk into the wrong circle, and make choices that break your heart. You pray with tears and ask God: “Lord, I have done my best. Why is this still happening?” Then you begin to blame yourself: Did I fail to raise them well? Is God punishing me? But there is one thing you must remember: Your child’s weakness does not mean you have failed as a parent. Faith cannot be forced. God has given every person free will, because what He wants is not outward obedience, but love that comes from the heart. Your child is an inheritance God entrusted to you. But in the end, they are also an independent soul. Just like you, one day they need to personally experience God and personally return to Him. So why does God allow you to go through this kind of pain? First, maybe God wants to teach us to let go of control and truly learn to surrender. Only when we are completely powerless do we truly understand this: We cannot save anyone. Second, maybe God is also using this child to break our own hearts. We can ask ourselves: Have I ever been rebellious before God, just like them? How many times has God called me, but I did not listen? When we remember how God has been patient with us, we learn to keep being patient with our own children through the love of Christ. Sometimes, God allows a child to walk through the wilderness. Just like the prodigal son in the Bible, only when he reached the lowest place did he truly wake up. A faith that is found again after struggle is often stronger than a faith inherited in comfort. God will not waste a single tear you have cried. Every tear you have shed for your child, God has seen it. God knows all your pain. Because God longs for your child to return even more than you do.
