It truly takes a village. ❤️ When Miss Piggy was attacked, we were told her chances of surviving were very small. I was trying to prepare myself for the possibility that, despite everything we did, we might still lose her. But then people started showing up. Not only with kind words, but with their time, their hands, their knowledge, their supplies and their hearts. Thank you so much to my neighbour Tara, who brought strawberries and blueberries for Miss Piggy to enjoy during her wound treatments, along with gloves and unpasteurized honey to help support her healing. Thank you to Merina, who took the time to harvest medicines to support Miss Piggy’s recovery. Carol, you have spent so many years advocating for and helping animals in so many different capacities. Thank you for going through your own supply of resources and gifting us so many of the wound care supplies we desperately needed. And to my ride or die ladies, Raven, Liza, Michelle and KO. Thank you for simply showing up. Thank you for holding and soothing Miss Piggy during her treatments, helping with all the additional care she requires and stepping in to help with the chores and responsibilities I have fallen behind on. I truly could not have done this without you. As for Miss Piggy, she is running around, foraging, eating and doing all the things pigs are supposed to do. Seeing her behave like a pig again feels like such a gift after everything she has been through. Her largest wound is healing well, with healthy granulation tissue slowly filling in the area. Unfortunately, the wound on her other side has developed a significant infection. It has a strong odour and still requires intensive wound care twice a day. We carefully clean and flush the wound, remove any maggots we find and pack the area with unpasteurized honey and the harvested medicines. Giving her pain medication and antibiotics has also become a challenge. She is feeling stronger, which is wonderful, but she is now incredibly difficult to safely hold still long enough for her injections. We are hoping to have a few more strong hands available to help us get those medications into her. We are not out of the woods yet. The infection is concerning. The wound care is ongoing. Every treatment requires time, supplies, patience and people willing to keep showing up. But she is still here. And she is still fighting. Miss Piggy’s story is no longer only ours. It belongs to every person who has checked on her, brought supplies, helped with treatments, shared her updates, sent encouragement or believed she deserved the chance to keep fighting. Her story is still being written, and because of this incredible community surrounding her, she does not have to fight alone. ❤️
